Humans In The Way

Published: May 27, 2026 by James Bach Leave a Comment

Whenever my brother is between gigs we get to collaborate on cool things. Recently we’ve been experimenting with livestreams. Is this podcasting? Maybe I should google that (not using Google, of course, but using a search engine). We’re doing live testing demonstrations, critical thinking sessions, Question Hospitals, and a series that examines AI use critically. That last one we call Humans In The Way.

Each episode we plan to look at some aspect of AI and critically examine it. For now, we are going to examine popular use cases for AI. We are working on one that looks at summarization, for instance.

The first one was about writing with AI. It prompted me to put into words my policy on AI writing which boils down to these five assertions:

  1. I do not let AI draft any text for a signed work of which I am the lead author.
  2. I allow myself to use AI to create unsigned works of plain factual text.
  3. I allow myself to use AI to help develop or critique ideas or to critique text.
  4. Under no circumstances will I allow an AI to represent me or pretend to be me.
  5. I do not acknowledge AI when it helps me in my work.

The link above includes a lot more detail. I’m hoping to inspire other people to draw lines clearly.

Here is the link to our first episode.
