Test Automation Snake Oil

This is probably the most popular article I ever wrote. It's about the nonsense and otherwise false claims that test tool companies make when they try to sell you their expensive tool. Originally published in 1996, the abuses I was angry about back then are still happening.

    James,

It’s amazing to me, when I look at the date this was written. Too me, it still rings true. Still resonates because now more than ever, it seems like that is all the industry is looking for developers for automation. The automation dream! If entire groups and companies are investing all their resources into automation hopes. They are missing stuff. Quality is not there and it is now being embedded everywhere because of the promise (snake oil). Where is there room anymore for Manual Test? Do certain industries value/require manual testers?

    great article
