My First Webinars

I’m going to try a public Webinar. Two of them. I won’t charge for these, since they are just experimental.

The first one will be on January 3rd, from 3-5pm Eastern Standard Time. I will be covering the first two hours or so of my Rapid Software Testing class (the new 2.1 version!). I will accept up to twenty participants. Email me for an invitation.

(Note to loyal readers outside the USA: I’ll be using a system called GoToWebinar, which allows you to see my screen, but does not provide audio through the web. To get audio, you have to dial a U.S. phone number. This could be expensive. You could use Skype to call that number, which would be less expensive, but Skype doesn’t seem to be reliable for this purpose. It’s up to you, but you might find it a frustrating experience. Even more frustrating because it will be in the middle of the night in your time zone!)

The second one will be January 8th, from 8:30pm to 10:00pm EST. It’s for a testing interest group meeting in Calgary, but you can be anywhere to view it. It’s entitled The Unbearable Lightness of Model-Based Testing. In this talk I want to talk about how the models in our minds systematically guide us during testing– and yet also trap us. I will demonstrate this problem by showing a state-based test of an application, and offer some ways out of the trap. This has relevance to testers, of course, but also to programmers who support and critique testing in the normal course of their work.

Testers with concerns about the suitability of their equipment towards taking up this webinar can have a look at - http://testertested.blogspot.com/2006/12/are-you-one-among-lucky-20-testers-of.html !

[James' Reply: Thanks, Pradeep. This is good advice.]

Is there anyway that you can save the webinar and post to for retrieval at a later date?

[James' Reply: Possibly. I'm going to try.]

Hi James! It was my privilege to attend your webinar on “Introduction to Rapid Software Testing”. The experiment was a success.

I understand that this was not the complete session on RST. But, I must say that I was not able to follow the message or may be it was like reading a hard book that needs repeated reading until you start understanding it. I think I will have to attend these sessions repeatedly.

I have some follow up questions. In one of your slides you explained the relationship between skills and heuristics. I could not hear it properly. Could you please explain it here?

Another question is on the Calendar example. I would like to know if someone is blind to some interesting test data due to any reason, as in this case early morning hours, how one can improve on it.

[James' Reply: Hi Vinayak. Well, I did two hours of a 20-30 hour class. So... there's more to come. We actually stopped on the slide that said "Introducing Rapid Testing." I will answer your specific questions on the class forum that I'm setting up.]

I just signed up for tomorrow’s class. I do hope that I will be able to stay up that late (I’m in GMT+2).
Any chance that you will post recordings of these classes in case remote people like me will fall asleep and miss the lessons?

    Thanks!

[James' Reply: I might do that, if I remember to turn the recorder on. Check with me afterwards.]
