Comment Alert

I just discovered that all new comments were being sent to the spam instead of held for moderation. I have no idea what has triggered this strange behavior.

If you have made a comment in the last couple of weeks and didn’t see it appear, it maybe lost. Please try again. I did manage to rescue a few.

I’m sorry for the suckiness of modern software…

Actually if anyone knows what causes WordPress to put something in the spam folder, I’d love to hear from you.

In my wordpress configuration, comments are sent to Spam folder through Akismet plug-in. About 85-90% of the comments moved there are spam indeed, but others are normal comments, which I have to “rescue” manually.
Check out your plug-ins, some of them must be responsible for spam filtering :)

[James' Reply: I didn't change anything, though. I use the captcha plug-in. But now every single thing goes to spam. I think I'll de-activate the Captcha.]

    Hello,

Just a few points to look for.

Most likely, you have an Akismet plug-in as it comes along with WordPress package. By default, it’s enabled. Akismet does the filtering work; at akismet-dot-com/faq/ an additional information can be found.

They have an entry that might be closely relevant to the problem happened.

All of the comments on my blog are going to spam!
Are you using the ReCaptcha plugin for WordPress? If so, please disable it and see if that fixes the problem. It sometimes catches comments as spam even when Akismet says they’re not.
If that doesn’t fix the problem, please contact support and we’ll investigate.

    Thank you,

PS. Akismet is an example of a system that learns through heuristics.

[James' Reply: I don't use Akismet. And in any case, I haven't changed anything recently. So this is a strange new behavior with no apparent cause.]

    @James,
May be the the comments which are in SPAM ( But not SPAM ) are because of the IP address that the spammers had ( Which you might have marked as SPAM ).

    It is still happening?

[James' Reply: This seems to have started happening after I added one IP address to the black list (there had been zero IP addresses to it). It stopped happening when I disabled ReCaptcha.]
