Server Move

Kevin Rogers of Infotech convinced me that I should migrate my server to a managed service. He handled the whole thing for an amazingly low price, too.

Now, I will be a bit harder to hack. But there may be a few glitches still to work out. For instance, during the move strange characters somehow became sprinkled here and there through my blog and comments. Strange bug!

Please alert me if you see weird things on my blog or website.

Kevin’s work (which was done on very short notice) reminds me that quality is all about people who wish to serve people. Kevin saved my server, and now I’m his loyal customer.

I had that as well on one of my test sites. I think it is a encoding setting problem. I can see that you web page is utf-8 encoded. If the the original data was not encoded in the same way, but now it is shown here, it will on occasion show a weird character.

[James' Reply: In some cases characters were changed. In other cases, new characters were inserted. Seems to be a couple of things going on.]

If you view your blow in Google Reader, the apostrophe has always been an escaped HTML character: '

It’s great to see all up and running again here at satisfice.com! When it comes to managed services I think one really has to look at what is needed. At the price somewhere around a dollar and a half per Gb per month for space it really makes good sense. You get the benefit of optical backbones and solid machine’s too. Some services will even allow serial access to the machine and have no problem with the client re imaging the entire box. Truth is, this kind of box alone would set a person back $5k ( and that’s not even connected yet ). Sure you have neighbors, that’s what the net is all about. Right?

I am happy to lend a hand James!
