Hack Attacks and Complexity
My blog has been down because I’m experiencing a hack attack. I may have to do something radical to secure my server, like rebuild the whole thing from scratch. It just goes to show how important testing is. The system I’m running is so complex that the security experts I’ve consulted all tell me to rip the thing apart and start over again.
In other words, developers create systems that even they don’t understand. Testers know this. Hackers know it, too. I guess hackers (the bad kind) are just testers who exploit bugs instead of reporting them.

Not only are hackers (the bad kind) just testers who exploit bugs, but they are usually darn good “automators”, too!

How do you know that they are security experts - do they have a nice certificate :-p
[James' Reply: I don't know. But they said what I already expected them to say, so my confirmation bias suggests they must be smart. :-)]

So any update on the status of your security? Seems like all of your sites are back online.
[James' Reply: The old server has been replaced by a new one in a managed server farm. I've got a new version of Wordpress and now I'm trying to iron out the little kinks.]
